We started WorkoutWithWii on the very day Nintendo released the Wii in the US.  The idea for this site occurred to us the day before we Wii launch.  After seeing news stories about how the Wii was played, our discussions lead us to the fact that it looked like a good workout.  The idea germinated that not only was the Wii a new way to exercise but could be incorporated into a weight loss program.  We decided to get the site off the ground first and then start documenting an actual Wii diet and fitness plan.  Several other people have launched similar initiatives.

I am proud to announce that I have officially started the WorkoutWithWii.com Weight loss Program which kicked off today.  The idea will be to work out everyday on the Wii for 30 minutes.  This will be coupled with a slight dietary change.

The workouts will mainly consist of using Wii Sports , although I will probably work in some Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (those bongos are a good upper body workout) and other games at the suggestion of our readers.  The Tom Coffee at the Spilling Coffee blog has raised the idea of using wrist weights as part of his Wii Workout.  I think I will take a slightly different route, as I think the Wii already offers a pretty good upper body workout.  As my workout progresses, I plan on introducing ankle weights to increase the aerobic affects of the Wii Workout.

The plan for the dietary changes are simple and should be easy for others to duplicate.  First, I want to lower my carbohydrate intake.  Don't confuse this with a low-carb diet.  I am not trying to eliminate carbs from my diet, just make better choices.  For instance instead of grabbing a cookie if I feel like a desert I will opt for a piece of fruit.  Or if dinner would be something like spaghetti, opt for a salad instead.  Secondly, I want to increase my water intake.  So instead of drinking soda, I will instead choose water.  These are small changes which should help with the weight loss.

Now some vital stats.  I am a Male, 5' 10" tall and the scale tells me I am 226 lbs.  Every few days, I will add an entry detailing my previous days workouts and some of my eating habits.  We'll see what the weight difference will be at the end of 30 days.

So follow my progress on WorkoutWithWii and be sure to share your experiences, goals and get some encouragemennt in our forums.  See you in 30 days :-)
