Wii Boxing For Fitness

Cleveland Plains Dealer published a story (http://www.cleveland.com/news/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/cuyahoga/1218616315241130.xml coll=2) about a study done by six Cleveland State University student researchers who found that 30 minutes of Wii Boxing burns nearly the same amount of energy as a half hour boxing session at the local gym. A group of 29 students spent working the punching bag and also the Wii. The end result was that the students burned only 28 more calories when working out on the boxing bag (which is statistically insignificant). So keep punching away at Wii Boxing.

One of the most widely anticipated title for the Wii is being released today in the US. Wii Fit (http://www.nintendo.com/wiifit/en/) attempts to make fitness fun by bridging the gap between physical fitness and video games.
Wii Catching On With Seniors

We were at dinner a few nights ago and friends related a story that their parents (who never get out) had started going over to their neighbors house in the retirement community they live in to play Wii Sports. Most popular apparently was Wii Bowling. Apparently this is a growing trend with the elderly. The Seattle Examiner ran a story entitled Area seniors catch Wii fever (http://www.examiner.com/a-1153444~Area_seniors_catch_Wii_fever.html) about this new segment of gamers. Workout With Wii salutes our more senior Wii owners. Anything that gets people socializing and more active is a good thing.
