The new year signals some exciting new changes to WorkoutWithWii.com. Wii sales continue to soar and our traffic has started to spike. We have already started changing the sites look. We went with a bigger font and will continue to work on making the site more readable on the Wii Opera Browser. As of today, we are pleased to announce our new Comment System which allows readers to discuss the article and news items we publish in context of the posting. We also started segmenting the news. There is a new Health and Fitness section where you can find articles specifically about physical fitness and the Wii. We will also be updating the graphics and maybe even a new site logo. When we started WorkoutWithWii, one of the intentions was to get input from personal trainers and nutritionists. We are actively working and hope to make an announcement sometime soon. Lastly, the real genesis of this site was the idea that we had when we first saw the Nintendo Wii. That thought was that the physical nature of playing the Wii was a great way to get a workout and could be part of a successful weightloss program. I have been waiting until the first of the year to embark on my official quest to document a Wii Weigthloss Program. I am proud to announce that I have started it as of today. So keep tuned to this website for information on my daily workouts and progress updates. We wish everyone a happy new year and a health and fit 2007! -S Warley |

The Wii is backward compatible with the GameCube. With the Wii being a new system, there are not a lot of Wii games out yet. Also GameCube games are cheap. All of this adds up to the fact that Wii owners should look into buying some GameCube games. With that in mind, Geek Idiot has published "The 40 Essential Gamecube Games". Most GameCube games can be found for under $15. We recently published an article on Donley Kong Jungle Beat which is an excellent purchase because it includes the Nintendo bongos. We also recommend buying Animal Crossing. This is one of the highest rated GameCube game. Make sure you buy the "Players Choice" version as it contains a free GameCube memory card which can be used in the Wii. You should be able to find it for under $20. Update 01/03/2007: Cameron Banga has published a list of 20 must-have GameCube games , each item with a mini-review. |

David Pogue published an excellent Blog post on the NY Times website called "The Wii Workout". David extoles the virtues of the Wii for kids fitness. From the article: "I am, however, suggesting that the Wii is infinitely better for our kids’ health than any other video or computer game — in fact, better than just about any other indoor activity." WorkoutWithWii of course fully agrees with Mr. Pogue and his message that the Wii is a great way to get kids physically active. And remember - make sure you stretch before your next Wii gaming session. |

With the shortage of Wii's this holiday season, WorkoutWithWii finds ourselves sharing the Wii experience with more gamers than we have ever shared anything in the past. After lugging a Wii to a second holiday party in two days (at the request of the party hosts) we tallied and figured about 25 different adults and kids have used our Wii controllers in the last few days. Now, cold and flu season is in full effect and those sweaty games of Wii Tennis surely have transfered germs to our Wii controllers. Doing a quick Google search shows that it is recommended to wash your hands and keep your toys clean as the top tips for preventing the common cold. From the Mayo Clinic's Common Cold Page Prevention Tips: |

Gamestop/EB Games has Donkey Kong Jungle Beat on sale for a dirt cheap $9.99 with 2nd Set of Bongos FREE! both online and in-store. We saw a ton of these in stock. This Game Cube game works great on the Wii and the pounding and clapping with the included bongo is a great workout for you arms. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat only supports a single Bongo controller. So what do you do with the second one. Order Donkey Konga 2 for $13.99 (with free shipping) at Deep Discount DVD. Donkey Konga supports multiple bongos. With so few games available for the new Wii system this seems like a great deal and lots of fun to play. And Donkey Kong Jungle Beat with the bongos has given WorkoutWithWii staffers a better arm workout than Wii Sports. Update 12/28/06: According to CAG , Toys R Us has Donkey Konga 2 on sale for $9.99 if you can find a copy in-store. |

The British Chiropractic Association (BCA) has advised that users take a 'Wii Warm up' before playing the Wii. From the BCA site: Tim Hutchful from the British Chiropractic Association comments: “As chiropractors we are encouraged that this new technology allows users to be so active especially at this time of year when the tendency is to do very little except eat and watch TV! We want people to enjoy these games, but enjoy them safely. Gamers should treat a ‘Wii session’ like any form of exercise and warm-up adequately beforehand to prevent stiffness and possible injuries.”
The BCA has released a paper called 'Wii Warm up' which is similar to the advice WorkoutWithWii posted when the Wii first came out. So now you have two independent sources recommending a good stretch before a Wii session. From the BCA paper: |

AP Press is reporting that Nintendo is recalled 3.2M Wii controller straps. You can register for replacements straps on Nintendo's website here. The old straps are 0.6 millimeter (0.024 inch) in diameter and the new heavy duty straps have a diameter of 1 millimeter (0.04 inch). This will hopefully alleviate the flying-controller problem but still exercise caution as striking something/someone is still a possibility. |
